Department of History, FIB Unud held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) together with the History Science Study Program, FISIPOL, UNY

Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University held a focus group discussion together with the Department of History, Faculty of Social, Legal and Political Sciences, Yogyakarta State University. The FGD was conducted on October 22 2024, at Yogyakarta State University, related to the management of the historical laboratory. In his remarks, the Head of the Department of History Education, Yogyakarta State University, Dr. Rizky Setiawan, S.Pd., M.Pd., stated that "this form of cooperation should be carried out in the form of serious commitment". Meanwhile, the coordinator of the FIB Unud Department of History, Anak Agung Inten Asmariati, S.S., M.Sc., in his speech stated that this FGD was a follow-up to the MoU which had previously been drafted during the visit of the UNY Department of History to Udayana University, 5 June 2024.

The FGD event was attended by Eka Ningtyas, M.A., who is a lecturer and head of the History Laboratory at Yogyakarta State University. In the material he presented there were several important points related to laboratory management, one of which was how the management of a history laboratory should involve many parties. Eka also conveyed the digitalization of archives that he had been working on in the UNY history laboratory. “This is joint work, which should involve not only lecturers but students, even the community. This is what we have done, and we continue to develop. In fact, many parties are willing to contribute to their collections, even though we realize that there are still many shortcomings that need to be developed. This digitalization not only requires precision and expertise in curation, but also the support of adequate tools, such as sophisticated scanning tools."

The substantial density of the material presented, with its distinctive speaking style, made the FGD participants enthusiastically listen and succeeded in provoking a number of questions from students. At the same time, we succeeded in achieving a joint commitment between the Department of History, Udayana University & Yogyakarta State University to work together to contribute to laboratory collections. This FGD activity was also carried out in conjunction with the Historical Research Practice which was participated in by Department of History Students Class of 2021. In line with the FGD topic, this historical research practice took a theme related to archive management. The students visited several places, including: St. Ignatius Yogyakarta (Kolsani) and Ullen Sentalu Museum.

Apart from that, in this Historical Research Practice activity, community service was also carried out in the form of a pilgrimage to the grave of historian Prof. Kuntowijoyo and Prof. RM. Soedarsono, which is located in the Sawit Sari tomb complex. "This pilgrimage is a service activity as well as a form of respect from the Udayana University Department of History academic community to the late Kuntowijoyo and Soedarsono, whose thoughts we are still studying and developing in the Department of History."
